Record Attempt: Hundreds Channel Marilyn Monroe
29 May
Summary
- Hundreds of Marilyn Monroe impersonators gathered for a world record attempt.
- The event honored Marilyn Monroe's 100th birthday in Palm Springs.
- Proceeds from the event support Greater Palm Springs Pride and LGBTQ+ rights.

This past Saturday, downtown Palm Springs was transformed into a scene reminiscent of Hollywood's golden age. Greater Palm Springs Pride organized an ambitious event to honor what would have been Marilyn Monroe's 100th birthday, culminating in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most Marilyn Monroe look-alikes in one location.
The goal was to gather 500 participants, surpassing the previous record of 254 set in 2020. Look-alikes were outfitted with essential elements of Monroe's iconic style, including a replica white dress, platinum blonde wig, sunglasses, and a martini glass, all for a $75 registration fee.
This star-studded tribute served a dual purpose, with all proceeds benefiting Greater Palm Springs Pride. The organization champions LGBTQ+ rights and aims to foster pride and respect within these communities, drawing inspiration from Monroe's own advocacy for authenticity and support for marginalized groups.
The record-breaking photo opportunity, scheduled for the "golden hour" to capture perfect lighting, was followed by a free Cher tribute concert. Additional events throughout the weekend included film screenings and drag shows, further celebrating the enduring legacy of the beloved Hollywood icon.
