- The judge dismissed the lawsuit as lacking merit and ordered sanctions.

A judge has ordered individuals who filed a lawsuit against Mariah Carey to pay her over $92,000 in sanctions. The legal action, filed in November 2023, alleged that Carey copied their 1989 song titled 'All I Want For Christmas Is You.'
The plaintiffs sought at least $20 million in damages. However, the judge dismissed their claims in March, deeming the lawsuit to be without merit. This dismissal was followed by the order for substantial financial sanctions against the accusers' legal team.
In total, nearly $110,000 was ordered to be paid to cover sanctions and other associated costs. The judge's decision aims to deter the filing of similar baseless lawsuits in the future, providing a significant financial penalty for the unsuccessful plaintiffs.
