Pop superstar Mariah Carey is countering claims made by her estranged brother, Morgan Carey, who alleges she is refusing to be deposed in their ongoing legal dispute. Morgan's legal team has filed motions asserting that Mariah has missed discovery deadlines.

However, Mariah's representatives have denied these accusations, stating that the singer has never refused to appear for a deposition and that the court has not issued a specific order for her appearance. Her legal team suggests Morgan's filings are a tactic to gain leverage.

Morgan initiated a $10 million lawsuit against Mariah in 2021. He claims her memoir, "The Meaning of Mariah Carey," defamed him by portraying him as violent and a drug dealer, which he states has harmed his reputation and professional opportunities.

Mariah has stated that she heard allegations of her brother selling drugs from multiple sources. She maintains that other assertions made in the book were either true or substantially true, disputes her brother's claims of defamation.
