Argentine artist Maria Becerra has unveiled her highly anticipated third studio album, 'Quimera,' a project born from a period of intense personal struggle. The album's conceptualization began in April following an emergency surgery for a second ectopic pregnancy, which resulted in severe internal bleeding and a prolonged recovery. This near-fatal experience became the profound inspiration for the 17-track record, released under Warner Music Latina.
'Quimera' delves into the "rollercoaster of emotions" Becerra endured, drawing inspiration from the mythical creature of the same name. This concept is further explored through four distinct alter egos: Shanina, Gladys, Jojo, and Maite. Each alter ego embodies a specific personality and emotional state experienced during her hospitalization and recuperation, serving as a shield and a means of channeling her pain and eventual empowerment.
Musically, Becerra ventures into new territory on 'Quimera,' embracing tropical genres such as salsa and cumbia, alongside her signature urban sound. She explains that these genres have always been a significant influence, having been present in her home since childhood. The album also features a deeply personal series of songs dedicated to her relationship with her partner, J Rei, culminating in a hopeful message about their future and engagement.
