Mardaani 3 Opens Flat: Franchise Stagnation Woes
31 Jan
Summary
- Mardaani 3 opening collections mirror the first film from 2014.
- The franchise saw minimal growth despite a 12-year gap.
- Mardaani 3 needs strong word-of-mouth to reach prior sequel's success.

Mardaani 3, released on January 31, 2026, has garnered Rs. 4 crores on its opening day. This collection is remarkably similar to the Rs. 3.46 crores earned by the first Mardaani film back in 2014.
Despite a 12-year interval and the release of Mardaani 2 in 2019, which achieved a lifetime collection of Rs. 47.57 crores, Mardaani 3's opening day performance shows no significant growth. Ideally, the franchise's collections should have seen a substantial increase due to elapsed time and franchise establishment.
In the current post-pandemic box office climate, relying on word-of-mouth for mid-budget films to grow is rare. Mardaani 3 faces stiff competition, though from a different audience segment than Border 2. To sustain as a franchise and enable Mardaani 4, the Rani Mukerji starrer must at least reach the Rs. 30-40 crores lifetime business mark, ideally matching Mardaani 2's success.
