The state government has launched a monumental project to preserve the rich history of Marathi musical theatre. This initiative, valued at Rs 1.28 crore, will culminate in a three-volume publication detailing the evolution of this art form across generations. This documentation effort is part of the 'Shatakottar Amrut Mahotsav' celebrations, marking 175 years of Marathi Sangeet Rangbhoomi.
The project is scheduled to unfold over three financial years, from 2026-27 to 2028-29. The first volume will cover the period from 1911 to 1932, with subsequent volumes documenting 1933-1959 and 1960-2020. Approximately 1,000 copies of each volume are planned for printing.
A significant portion of the budget, around Rs 1.10 crore, is allocated for editing, design, layout, and printing. An additional Rs 18 lakh is earmarked for publication ceremonies, including a dedicated launch for each volume. The Darshanika (State Gazetteer) Division in Mumbai will oversee the execution of this historic undertaking.
