María Vargas to Represent Mexico at Miss Universe 2026

María Vargas, a 28-year-old from Jalisco with a degree in international business and a background as a writer, was crowned Miss Universe Mexico 2026. She succeeds Fátima Bosch and will proudly represent Mexico at the Miss Universe 2026 pageant. The national competition, held in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, saw 32 contestants vying for the title. Vargas emphasized her commitment to not only raising her voice but also to listening, a sentiment inspired by Bosch's impactful reign. She emerged victorious over four other finalists, with Mariana Macías of Michoacán securing the first runner-up position.

During the event, Fátima Bosch made her final walk as Miss Universe Mexico, wearing an elegant silver gown. The competition progressed through various stages, including evening gown and national costume competitions. Jalisco also claimed the top honor in the national costume competition with a design by Joel García, which Vargas will wear at Miss Universe. The judges included notable figures such as model Daniela Cossio, Miss Universe Chile 2025 Inna Moll, and Miss Universe Cuba 2025 Lina Luaces. Clovis Nienow hosted the event, which concluded with Vargas receiving the crown and sash from Bosch.
