Chilean director Manuela Martelli is set to make her Cannes Official Selection debut with her second feature film, 'Meltdown.' The movie will premiere in the Un Certain Regard section at the festival. Set in Chile during 1992, a period of transition following Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship, the story unfolds at a remote hotel near an Andean ski resort.
The drama focuses on nine-year-old Inès, who forms a friendship with a teenage German skier named Hanna. Their bond takes a dark turn when Hanna disappears without a trace. The subsequent search for Hanna begins to expose buried truths.
This project marks Martelli's return to Cannes, where her first feature, '1976,' premiered in Directors' Fortnight in 2022. 'Meltdown' is produced by Ronda Cine, Cinema Inutile, and Wood Producciones, with co-production support from Elastica Films, Piano, and Fundación Río.
