Greg Mounfield, brother of the late Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist Gary "Mani" Mounfield, has shared his feelings about the immense "outpouring of love" since Mani's passing last year. Mani died peacefully in his sleep on November 20th, 2025, at his home in Heaton Moor, Greater Manchester, due to "respiratory issues" connected to emphysema. He was 63 years old.
The funeral, held on December 22nd, 2025, at Manchester Cathedral, was attended by numerous prominent figures from 1980s and 90s British music, including former bandmates Ian Brown and Bobby Gillespie, Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, Paul Weller, and footballers Sir David Beckham and Gary Neville.
Greg also discussed the difficult period for Mani's twin sons, who were orphaned after their mother, Imelda, passed away in 2023. He noted that the twins are coping well, with one recently serving as a mascot for Manchester United, while his brother supports Manchester City.
A crowdfunder initiated by GRIT Studios, a not-for-profit art organization, is raising funds for a mural of Mani in Failsworth and to support the Maggie's Centre in Manchester. This initiative honors Mani's past support for the charity, which aided his late wife Imelda during her cancer treatment. GRIT Studios aims to continue Mani's legacy by donating all profits from the crowdfunder.
