Mangaluru Celebrates Deepavali with Vibrant Festivities

On October 20th, 2025, Mangaluru will host its 11th annual Deepavali celebration and Goodudeepa competition, organized by MLC Ivan D'Souza. The event, which has been a tradition for the past decade, is set to bring together people of all faiths to celebrate Deepavali, Christmas, and Ramzan in unity and harmony.
The celebrations will be inaugurated by Ananthapadmanabha Asranna, the family priest of the Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari temple. Several social, political, and religious leaders, along with other dignitaries, will take part in the event, which is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.
The festivities will include a range of competitions, including folk dance, drawing, and the popular Goodudeepa competition. The folk dance competition will be held for school students and teams with participants above 15 years of age, with cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000, and Rs 5,000 for the top three winners. The drawing competition, open to school, college students, and the general public, will offer cash awards of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000, and Rs 2,000 for the first, second, and third place winners, respectively.
The Goodudeepa competition, which will begin at 5:30 pm, will see all participants receiving consolation prizes. The event promises to be a vibrant celebration of Deepavali, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Mangaluru.
