Mandalorian Movie Fails to Capture Box Office Magic
14 Jul
Summary
- Mandalorian film struggled to attract general audiences despite franchise popularity.
- Mixed reviews and weak marketing campaign contributed to underperformance.
- Film is now available on digital platforms and upcoming physical release.

Seven years after its last cinematic outing, the Star Wars franchise made its anticipated return to theaters this summer with "The Mandalorian and Grogu." However, the film did not achieve the massive box office success Lucasfilm had hoped for. It garnered mixed reviews, scoring 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, and suffered from a lackluster marketing effort, which hindered its appeal to the general moviegoing public.
Following a respectable $98 million opening weekend, the film saw a significant decline in ticket sales. Its theatrical run concluded with it being outperformed by smaller independent films like "Backrooms" and "Obsession." As the movie's cinema run winds down, a new avenue for revenue is opening. Lucasfilm has announced that "The Mandalorian and Grogu" will be available for digital purchase starting July 21st. A physical 4K Ultra HD disc edition, accompanied by a standard Blu-ray and digital code, is scheduled for release on August 25th.
