Malin Akerman Cast in Netflix Series Based on Novel

Malin Akerman has joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix Canada series, "This Summer Will Be Different." The show is an adaptation of Carley Fortune's 2024 novel. Akerman will portray Aunt Stacy, a character she finds particularly uplifting and enjoys bringing to life.

The series follows Lucy, a tourist on Canada's Prince Edward Island, who develops a complex romantic connection with a local named Felix. Their relationship becomes complicated due to Felix's connection to Lucy's best friend, Bridget. The cast also includes Sophie Nélisse as Lucy and Megan Follows as her mother.

Akerman shared her enthusiasm for the role, stating she has been having a blast on set. Author Carley Fortune expressed her thrill at having Megan Follows join the cast, citing her iconic portrayal of Anne Shirley in "Anne of Green Gables" as a significant influence on her writing. Fortune's previous novel, "Every Summer After," was also adapted for television.
