The sequel to Priyadarshan's 2006 hit, Malamaal Weekly, is officially in the works, with filming set to begin in November 2026. Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal, and Rajpal Yadav, who starred in the original film, are confirmed to return for Malamaal Weekly 2. They will be joined by YouTube content creator and Bigg Boss OTT Season 2 winner, Elvish Yadav, in a significant new role.
Directed by Amit Joshi, known for co-directing Teri Baton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, the new film will feature a fresh storyline. However, it intends to retain the core theme of the original: the chaotic pursuit of wealth by ordinary people in a small town, driven by poverty and greed.
The original Malamaal Weekly, released in 2006, was a commercial success and spawned remakes in several South Indian languages. Its plot centered on a lottery ticket seller who attempts to keep a winning ticket for himself, sparking a chain of comedic events.
Malamaal Weekly 2 is anticipated to deliver a full-fledged comedy of errors, echoing the comic spirit that made the first installment a favorite among audiences. The cast has verbally agreed, with formal contracts pending.
