As of October 2025, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2014 horror film "It Follows" is taking shape. Actress Maika Monroe, who starred in the original movie, has provided a hopeful update to fans.
Monroe recently revealed that writer and director David Robert Mitchell has written an "exceptional" script for the sequel, which she is eager to start filming "next year." The actress noted that the team is currently trying to make the project work with their busy schedules, but they are optimistic about bringing the follow-up to life.
"I'm hoping -- rumors are of next year," Monroe told Decider. "I don't need to get into a bunch of scheduling and stuff, but we've all been busy." However, she emphasized that the script is so good that she believes the movie "should get made" and that fans will be "really happy" with the end result.
The original "It Follows" was a critical success, earning a 95% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes and revitalizing the horror genre. The film, written and directed by Mitchell, starred Monroe as Jamie 'Jay' Height, a teenage girl pursued by a supernatural entity after a sexual encounter. In 2015, Radius-TWC co-president Tom Quinn had teased the possibility of a sequel, and now, over a decade later, the follow-up is finally taking shape.
Monroe and Mitchell are set to reunite for the sequel, which will be produced by Neon and Good Fear Content. Fans of the original "It Follows" can look forward to the continuation of this chilling and acclaimed horror story in the near future.
