Edko Films has acquired the Hong Kong and Macau distribution rights for "The Mage," a new feature from 852 Films. Directed and written by Danny Pang, the film is slated for a theatrical release in the third or fourth quarter of this year. Currently in post-production, "The Mage" is being presented to international buyers, with global rights retained by 852 Films. Additional territory deals and festival launches are anticipated.
The film stars Josie Ho as Lan Peiqing, a scavenger whose discovery of a body triggers traumatic memories. A former spirit medium, Lan is guilt-ridden over a past incident and now seeks atonement by helping spirits find peace. Her path intersects with that of police officer Huang Ming, investigating a series of deaths that appear accidental.
Together, Lan and Huang uncover that the deaths are the work of a calculated killer, a dangerous discovery that puts them both at risk. The movie combines supernatural elements with action, suspense, and special effects, promising a thrilling cinematic experience.
