Hewitt revealed the remark, intended as a joke, landed like a 'nuclear bomb' and caused him significant stress, even triggering what he described as PTSD. He found himself in a difficult position, needing to defend his wife without condoning her insensitive joke, especially towards a sensitive participant like Rachel Gilmore.

Following the incident, Danny made the decision to remove himself and Bec from the retreat, labeling the atmosphere as unbearable 'bulls**t.' They temporarily left the experiment to recharge before returning for the next dinner party. Danny reflected on the chaotic environment, noting that while Bec's jokes had been landing well earlier in the evening, this particular one caused widespread fallout.
