MAFS Expert John Aiken Faces Psychology Council Probe
24 Mar
Summary
- Psychology Council investigated John Aiken after a former participant's complaint.
- Aiken will be counselled on the Psychology Board's Code of Conduct.
- A previous 2017 investigation impacted Aiken's role on the show.

The Psychology Council of New South Wales is investigating Married At First Sight expert John Aiken following a complaint lodged by a former participant, Ben Walters, in April of last year.
Walters expressed concerns about Aiken's on-screen commentary and attitude, suggesting a potential breach of his ethical obligations as a registered psychologist during his 2023 experience on the show.
The Council's investigation, which began in April last year, culminated in a meeting on December 9, 2025. It was agreed that Aiken would receive counselling regarding the Psychology Board of Australia's Code of Conduct.
This is not the first time Aiken has faced such scrutiny. A previous investigation by the Psychology Council of NSW in 2017 led to restrictions on his ability to practice psychology on the show.
Despite the complaint, the Council agreed to close the matter, subject to Aiken's counselling, while keeping a record for any future issues. The situation highlights ongoing questions about the experts' role in balancing genuine participant support with the show's dramatic elements.
