The legendary actress Madhubala passed away on February 23, 1969, at the young age of 36, her life tragically cut short by a congenital heart disease. This condition significantly impacted her physical and emotional well-being.
During her final days, Madhubala experienced significant weight loss, leaving her reluctant to see visitors or face public scrutiny. Her sister, Madhur Bhushan, recounted Madhubala's poignant moments of distress, as she struggled with her appearance and refused to be a source of worry or expense for her family.
Madhubala's heart condition was diagnosed in 1954 after she unexpectedly spat blood while on the set of 'Bahut Din Huye'. Despite this diagnosis and her progressively worsening health, she bravely continued to film demanding sequences for the epic 'Mughal-E-Azam' released in 1960.
In recognition of her enduring legacy, a statue of Madhubala was unveiled at Madame Tussauds in New Delhi on August 10, 2017. Her sister also expressed her wish for Kareena Kapoor Khan to portray Madhubala in any future biopic.
