Filmmaker Lynne Ramsay is set to receive the prestigious Cinema City Honorary Award on March 6 during a special In Conversation event at the Glasgow Film Festival (GFF). This honor recognizes filmmakers for their outstanding contributions to cinema.
Ramsay, celebrated for her distinctive visual style and powerful storytelling across three decades, made her feature debut with the Glasgow-shot 'Ratcatcher' in 1999. Her directorial work includes acclaimed Hollywood titles such as 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' and 'You Were Never Really Here.'
The Cinema City Honorary Award, launched in 2024, is named after Glasgow's historical moniker from the 1930s when it boasted more cinemas per capita than anywhere else in the UK. Previous recipients of this honor include Viggo Mortensen and James McAvoy.
The GFF's Industry Focus strand will also feature James McAvoy for the U.K. premiere of his directorial debut 'California Schemin'.' Additionally, Glasgow-based director Felipe Bustos Sierra will present 'Everybody to Kenmure Street,' and Edinburgh filmmaker Sean Dunn will showcase 'The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford.'
