Lupita Nyong'o to Host Buena Vista Social Club on Broadway

Lupita Nyong'o will host a special interactive performance of Buena Vista Social Club on Broadway on August 14. This event promises a unique experience where audiences are encouraged to dance from their seats as the live orchestra performs iconic Cuban music.

The musical production, inspired by the Grammy-winning 1997 album, has achieved significant acclaim. It traces the journeys of legendary Cuban musicians and has become a Broadway success story.

Directed by Saheem Ali and featuring a book by Marco Ramirez, the show opened in March 2025. It garnered multiple Tony Awards, including wins for choreography, orchestrations, and sound design. Natalie Venetia Belcon received a Tony for her role as Omara.

The current cast includes Belcon, Rick Negron, Mel Semé, and Jainardo Batista Sterling, accompanied by a live orchestra that also received a Special Tony Award. The musical is currently playing at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York.

Nyong'o's appearance follows her recent success in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," which has become a major box office hit in 2026, earning over $650 million worldwide in its first 10 days.
