In 2025, the city of Ludhiana is honoring the legacy of its most renowned cultural asset, the legendary poet Sahir Ludhianvi. Sahir, who used Ludhiana in his name, studied at the Malwa Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Model Gram, when it was known as Khalsa High School.
The school's principal, Karamjit Singh Grewal, has preserved Sahir's admission withdrawal entry from April 1, 1935, which records his name and date of birth. Sahir left the school on March 31, 1937, while in Class X. However, tangible traces of Sahir's time at the school have not survived, as the school was later shifted to a new location in 1974.
Decades later, in 1970, Sahir returned to Ludhiana as the chief guest for the golden jubilee celebrations of SCD Government College, the same institution that had once expelled him. Brij Bhushan Goyal, the organizing secretary of the college's alumni association, believes that Sahir's legacy deserves to be studied and celebrated, as his thoughts on justice, love, and equality remain deeply relevant even today.
