Liu is being recognized for her "commanding and emotionally layered performance" in the film Rosemead, which is set to screen at the festival on October 21 before its nationwide theatrical release by Vertical this December.
"The Artistic Achievement Award recognizes a powerful work of a filmmaker, actor, or industry professional on a new film premiering in the Philadelphia Film Festival that simply cannot be ignored," said Andrew Greenblatt, CEO and Executive Director of the Philadelphia Film Society. "We are proud to honor Lucy Liu with the Artistic Achievement Award for her exceptional performance in Rosemead."
Liu, well-known for her roles in films and series such as Kill Bill, Charlie's Angels, Elementary, and Ally McBeal, plays an ailing woman who discovers her teenage son's violent obsessions and must go to great lengths to protect him in director Eric Lin's drama Rosemead. The award will be presented to Liu after the film's screening on October 21 by Artistic Director Michael Lerman.
