The 11-acre campus features a 300,000-square-foot building housing galleries, theaters, a library, and dining spaces.
The museum's collection spans diverse artistic contributions, including works by comic artist Jack Kirby, painter Norman Rockwell, street artist Banksy, and illustrator Kadir Nelson. It also holds George Lucas' personal archives, filled with models, props, concept art, and costumes from his iconic franchises.
Co-founder Mellody Hobson emphasized the museum's role as a community space, intended "by the people for the people." Architect Ma Yansong of MAD Architects designed the futuristic structure, aiming to create a new landmark for the city. Museum CEO Tracey Bates views the institution's success as a long-term endeavor, measured by its lasting contribution to Los Angeles' cultural landscape.
