Fans of the 1990s are in for a treat as Nia Long and Larenz Tate, the stars of the cult classic Love Jones, are set to reunite for a new romantic drama on Netflix. The untitled project, which was officially greenlit by the streaming giant on Wednesday, will be directed by filmmaker Eugene Ashe and written by Kay Oyegun, a writer-producer best known for her work on the hit NBC series This Is Us.
While the film's plot details are being kept under wraps, the project is said to be inspired by R&B singer Maxwell's acclaimed debut album, Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite. Released in 1996, the album became a critical success and is recognized as one of the projects that helped bring commercial exposure to the neo-soul genre.
Long and Tate, who previously worked together on the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic Michael, will serve as executive producers on the new Netflix film, along with Maxwell and other industry veterans. Fans are eagerly anticipating the reunion of the two actors, whose on-screen chemistry in Love Jones captivated audiences over two decades ago.
