Ten years ago, music historian Alec Palao discovered faint pencil markings on a record collection, revealing "Davie Jones." This led to the incredible find of five unreleased songs by a young David Bowie, recorded in 1965. Palao acquired another five tracks later, bringing the total of these previously unheard recordings to ten.
These raw and visceral tracks offer a fascinating window into London in 1965, showcasing Bowie as a teenager dreaming of stardom. The songs were kept by his first professional producer, Shel Talmy, who worked with other notable artists of the era.
From Friday, these ten unreleased songs will be available for purchase and streaming. This release taps into Bowie's significant popularity in the vinyl format, as he was named the 21st century's best-selling vinyl artist. The collection highlights his enduring status as a British cultural icon.
