Longleat's skies will once again be adorned with hot air balloons for the annual Icons of the Sky event, running from September 11 to 13. This year's spectacle, marking Longleat's 60th anniversary, features a towering 120ft scarecrow balloon as a highlight. Alongside various animal-themed airborne characters, attendees can expect performances from the G-Force Aerobatics team and historic aircraft, including Spitfires.
Tethered displays will allow close-up views of balloons like Thomas the Tank Engine and an elephant. Two mass hot air balloon ascents are scheduled daily, with a debut for the 'Smiley' scarecrow balloon from Indiana, USA. The Chateau Balleroy balloon, once commissioned by Malcolm Forbes, will also make its first appearance. Aircraft displays will include the Battle of Britain memorial flight Spitfire pair and a P51D Mustang.
Evening entertainment will feature illuminated balloons set to music, accompanied by fireworks. The park will be open from 07:00 to 20:30 BST daily, with the last safari entry at 15:00 BST. Icons of the Sky is included with a Longleat day ticket, with parking also included in the ticket price.
