Curated by Ehsan Khoshbakht, the festival's initiative, in partnership with Cinémathèque suisse and UCLA Film and Television Archive, aims to illuminate the era when the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) instigated widespread fear and career destruction.
The retrospective will feature a diverse range of films, documentaries, newsreels, and shorts from countries including the United States, Britain, Spain, Italy, France, Mexico, and Argentina. These cinematic works will explore the origins and consequences of the Red Scare.
"Red & Black - Hollywood Left and the Blacklist" will showcase digital restorations and archival prints. It will be accompanied by a book and a podcast featuring international film scholars and critics, offering deeper insights into the period and its artistic responses.
