Lawsuit Reignites: Lively vs. Baldoni Court Battle Heats Up

Attorneys for actress Blake Lively returned to a New York court on Monday, seeking legal fees and damages from her "It Ends with Us" co-star, Justin Baldoni. This move escalates a legal conflict that had recently seen a settlement reached between the parties.

Lively's legal team contends that the defamation lawsuit initiated by Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, constituted retaliation, which is prohibited under California law. Baldoni's representatives have refuted this assertion.

The dispute originated in December 2024 when Lively first filed a complaint. She alleged that Baldoni, who also directed the film, had made inappropriate comments about his personal life and attempted to alter the movie's script. Lively claimed Baldoni orchestrated a public relations campaign to damage her reputation.

Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios had previously counter-sued Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, with accusations of extortion and defamation. However, a judge dismissed these claims last year. Wayfarer Studios had maintained that its team did not engage in any retaliatory actions against Lively.

While a federal judge dismissed some of Lively's claims, he did uphold her allegations of retaliation. The exact terms of the out-of-court settlement remain undisclosed. "It Ends with Us," adapted from Colleen Hoover's novel, achieved significant box office success in 2024, grossing over $350 million.
