Original Little House Cast: Where Are They Now?

The recent "Little House on the Prairie" reboot on Netflix has sparked renewed interest in the beloved 1974 original series. Melissa Gilbert, who portrayed Laura Ingalls and served as the show's narrator for all nine seasons until 1983, continued acting in various TV movies and shows. Michael Landon, who played Laura's father, Charles Ingalls, and also directed and wrote for the series, went on to star in "Highway to Heaven" before his death in 1991 at age 54. Karen Grassle, who played Caroline Ingalls, experienced salary disputes with Landon, leading to her temporary departure from the show.

Melissa Sue Anderson, who played Mary Ingalls, made a memorable portrayal of her character's blindness and later transitioned to film and television roles. The twins Rachel and Sidney Greenbush shared the role of Carrie Ingalls and retired from acting in 1983. Alison Arngrim, known for playing the antagonist Nellie Oleson, maintained a close friendship with Gilbert off-screen and has written a memoir. Katherine MacGregor, who played the memorable Harriet Oleson, passed away in 2018 at 93. Richard Bull, as Nels Oleson, had a prolific acting career before his passing in 2014. Dean Butler, who played Almanzo Wilder, has since focused on producing and narrating documentaries.
