23 Mar
Summary
- Lisa Kudrow now believes Ross cheated on Rachel.
- Previously, Kudrow agreed with the 'on a break' defense.
- A 2019 survey indicated most people sided with Ross.

Lisa Kudrow, known for her role as Phoebe Buffay in the beloved sitcom "Friends," has publicly reversed her long-held stance on the show's most debated relationship moment: whether Ross Geller and Rachel Green were on a break. Kudrow, who previously agreed with her co-stars that Ross and Rachel were indeed on a break when he slept with another woman, now believes he cheated.
Speaking recently to Entertainment Tonight, Kudrow stated, "I've switched." She further elaborated on her changed perspective, describing Ross as "ridiculous" and a "baby" not suitable for building a future. This U-turn comes years after the "Friends" reunion special in 2021, where the cast, including Kudrow, initially backed the "on a break" defense.
Interestingly, a 2019 survey conducted by dating app Plenty of Fish revealed that 60% of nearly 2,000 participants sided with Ross, believing he was in the right. However, the same survey indicated that women were more inclined to agree with Rachel's perspective, with 44% believing Ross had cheated, compared to 36% of men.
Kudrow also reflected on her relationship with the show after the passing of co-star Matthew Perry in October 2023. She shared that she only began re-watching "Friends" after his death as part of a process of remembering and grieving, expressing newfound appreciation for her castmates' performances.
