In a major acquisition, Lionsgate has secured the worldwide rights (outside of China) to the action thriller 'The Furious'. The film, which premiered to critical acclaim in the Midnight Madness section of the 2025 Toronto Film Festival, is set to hit theaters in 2026.
'The Furious' marks the feature directorial debut of veteran action choreographer Kenji Tanigaki, known for his work on films like 'Rurouni Kenshin' and 'Snake Eyes'. The story follows a humble tradesman, Wang Wei, who is thrust into a deadly underworld of corruption and violence when his daughter Rainy is abducted. Joined by a relentless journalist named Navin, Wang Wei fights his way through an international criminal network in a desperate bid to save his daughter and uncover the truth.
Produced by acclaimed filmmaker Bill Kong, whose credits include 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' and 'House of Flying Daggers', 'The Furious' is hailed as a thrilling return to the golden age of Hong Kong action filmmaking. With a talented cast that includes Xie Miao, Joe Taslim, and Yayan Ruhian, the film promises to deliver intense martial arts sequences and a gripping narrative.
