Linda Perry to Madonna: 'Wake Up, You Are a Leader'
27 May
Summary
- Perry believes Madonna has become a follower, not a leader.
- She wants to help Madonna regain her authentic, powerful sound.
- Perry previously helped Christina Aguilera find her voice.
Songwriter Linda Perry, a 2015 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, has shared her candid thoughts on Madonna's current musical direction. Perry expressed a strong desire to collaborate with the pop legend, not to create new hits, but to help Madonna reconnect with her iconic powerful sound. Perry feels Madonna has recently been following trends and sounds weak, a stark contrast to her past as a trailblazing leader. Perry specifically stated, "Wake up, get back to who Madonna is and what you represent. You are a leader." Perry envisions a more acoustic, raw project where Madonna’s voice would take center stage, free from Auto-Tune and heavy electronics. She acknowledged that Madonna has previously rejected her offers for collaboration and believes the singer would resist such a direction. Perry previously helped Christina Aguilera overcome insecurity to record the Grammy-winning song 'Beautiful'.
