Lilly Wachowski Closes Matrix Door

Lilly Wachowski has declared her departure from the Matrix franchise, stating she is finished with the science fiction saga she co-created with her sister, Lana. She expressed this sentiment during a recent appearance on KCRW's The Business. While Warner Bros. is keen on producing more installments, Wachowski indicated her personal disinterest in returning to direct.

A potential fifth Matrix film is reportedly in development, with Oscar-nominated writer Drew Goddard attached to write and direct. Wachowski mentioned that she and Lana might offer their blessing for Goddard's project, but emphasized that it remains uncertain if they will be involved beyond that.

Lana Wachowski previously directed the 2021 sequel, 'The Matrix Resurrections,' after co-writing and co-directing the original trilogy. Meanwhile, Lilly Wachowski is actively working on financing her new project, a dystopian political thriller titled 'The Hunted,' which is notable for its planned all-trans cast.
