Leicester is experiencing a significant shift in its music scene, marked by a proliferation of all-female punk rock bands. This transformative wave was ignited by the vision of making the music industry more inclusive for older women.
In 2021, The Unglamorous music project was established, guiding women to learn instruments and form bands with the goal of performing live. Though the founder passed away in October 2023, her legacy continues through the Riotous Collective, a member-led organization boasting approximately 80 members and still expanding.
The collective prioritizes creating a secure environment for women, enabling them to perform and enjoy music venues independently. This initiative has empowered numerous women, boosting their confidence and offering a creative outlet for personal challenges.
