Legendary Taps Marvel Writer Zeb Wells for Buck Rogers Film Adaptation

In October 2025, it was reported that Legendary Entertainment has made significant progress on developing a feature film adaptation of the iconic sci-fi character Buck Rogers. The studio, which secured the screen rights to the character back in 2020, has brought on acclaimed writer Zeb Wells to pen the script for the upcoming movie.

Details about the film's plot remain under wraps, but the studio is reportedly planning a transmedia franchise that would include not only the feature film, but also a live-action television series and an anime series centered around the Buck Rogers character. However, it's unclear if the plans for the television projects remain active as of the current date.

Created by Philip Francis Nowlan, Buck Rogers first appeared in the 1929 novella "Armageddon - 2419 A.D." published in the pulp magazine Amazing Stories. The character, a World War I veteran who ends up in suspended animation for centuries, has since expanded into various media, including comic strips, radio serials, and a 1939 film serial starring Buster Crabbe.

Wells, an Emmy and Annie Award-winning writer, is best known as the creator and executive producer of the recent Marvel Zombies animated series on Disney+. He has also written for acclaimed projects like Deadpool & Wolverine, the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
