Legendary Actor Gene Hackman's Prized Art Collection Hits the Auction Block

In November 2025, the art collection of the late, two-time Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman will be auctioned off by Bonhams Auctions in New York. The auction, set for November 19th, will feature prestigious works that Hackman had collected throughout his life, described as having "impeccable provenance" and further enriched by their association with the legendary actor.

Bonhams' Head of 20th and 21st Century Art, Andrew Huber, noted that Hackman was not only a collector but an artist himself, and his approach to collecting mirrored the care, aesthetic sensibility, and discipline evident in his own artistic practice. The collection, Huber said, was shaped with "extraordinary thoughtfulness and passion."

In addition to the in-person auction, Bonhams will also hold two online sales between November 8-21 and November 25-December 4, featuring Hackman's personal artworks, annotated books, scripts, posters, and memorabilia from his lengthy career. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on three of Hackman's Golden Globes, including the awards he won for 1993's "Unforgiven" and 2002's "Royal Tenenbaums," as well as his Lifetime Achievement Award from 2003.

Bonhams described the upcoming sales as offering "a rare window into the artistic mind of a profoundly disciplined and instinctive artist" in their announcement on Instagram.
