As of October 7th, 2025, country music icon LeAnn Rimes is set to star in the new ABC series 9-1-1: Nashville, where she will play a character named Dixie Bennings who has a son named Blue Bennings, portrayed by rising actor Hunter McVey.
Rimes, who released her debut single "Blue" in 1996 at the age of 13, says the character name is a "coincidence" but that she and McVey are "definitely going to have some good fun" with the connection. McVey, making his acting debut, acknowledges the "pressure" and "stress" of the new role but is eager to "soak up as much information as [he] can" from Rimes.
Both actors gush about their on-screen mother-son dynamic, with Rimes calling McVey "incredible" and saying they had an "instant connection." McVey, in turn, describes Rimes as an "incredible human being" who brings "raw emotion and energy to the set every single day." He recalls being "so nervous" filming his first scene with Rimes but says she "made [him] feel just at home" with her "motherly energy."
The new 9-1-1 franchise series, set to premiere on October 9th, 2025, follows the lives of emergency responders in Music City as they face life-threatening situations. Rimes and McVey will be joined by a talented ensemble cast including Chris O'Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley.
