Lauryn Hill will be honored with the inaugural Living Legend Icon Award at the upcoming 2026 BET Awards. This new award celebrates pioneers who have mastered their craft and profoundly influenced culture.
BET acknowledges Hill as a true living legend whose artistry redefined musical possibilities. Her debut solo album, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," released in 1998, achieved critical acclaim and historic Grammy wins, including Album of the Year. This made her the first woman to win five Grammys in a single night.
Throughout her career, both with The Fugees and as a solo artist, Hill has consistently shaped musical eras rather than merely following trends. Her fearless, spiritual, and free artistic expression has left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape.
