Lauren Sanchez appeared on the Today show to promote her new children's book, 'The Fly Who Flew Under The Sea'. During the interview, she became emotional while discussing her lifelong struggle with dyslexia, a condition she shares with one of her sons.
Sanchez revealed that she was unaware of her dyslexia until the age of 19 and had actively hidden it for a significant period. She credited a community college teacher for encouraging her to get tested, saying, "You're not dumb, she just can't spell."
A deeply impactful moment for Sanchez occurred during her wedding to Jeff Bezos in June 2025. Her son Evan Whitesell, who also has dyslexia, delivered a speech detailing his experiences, which Sanchez described as "extremely important" to him.
She shared another touching anecdote about her son in fourth grade telling himself, "I can do it," while struggling with spelling. This resilience has inspired Sanchez, prompting her to display the phrase in her home. She also emphasized the importance of parents reading to their children for 10 minutes daily, noting the release of oxytocin and its benefits for bonding.
Sanchez also briefly mentioned her daughter Ella Whitesell's upcoming college journey and humorously addressed the "empty nester" phase with new terms like "Egg Launcher." Additionally, she revealed that she and Bezos were invited by Anna Wintour to host and sponsor the Met Gala, with the theme "Fashion As Art."
