On October 31, 2025, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles announced plans to host a major horror-themed exhibition starting in September 2027. The exhibition, titled "The Horror Show," will run until July 2027 and aims to "bridge the gap between cinema and experience, honoring horror's enormous cultural impact and enduring popularity."
The museum's Director and President, Amy Homma, expressed excitement for visitors to "explore and experience filmmaking that has influenced generations." Senior Exhibitions Curator Jessica Niebel noted that throughout film history, horror has "thrilled and moved audiences, acting as a powerful outlet for expression and a tool for social commentary."
The exhibition will feature six themed galleries, allowing visitors to encounter their favorite horror creatures, monsters, and objects, while also getting a behind-the-scenes look at the storytelling and production process. The exhibition will explore representations of identity, sexuality, and ability in iconic horror films like "Alien," "The Shining," and "Get Out."
The Horror Show will incorporate public programming, including screenings, gallery talks, and tours. The museum advises parental guidance for younger visitors.
