Laila! Drops Revenge Anthem "Miss Mango"

Brooklyn-based artist Laila! has released her new single, "Miss Mango," two years after her debut album, "Gap Year!". The song, which Laila! wrote and produced, delves into themes of lost love, unexpected friendship, and a journey toward revenge. She also took on the creative direction for the accompanying music video.

The "Miss Mango" music video was filmed in Saint Thomas, a location where Laila! previously lived for six months during the pandemic. She incorporated locals from the Caribbean island into the video's cast, highlighting a personal connection to the place where she began producing music.

Laila! described the new music as having a warm, summer vibe, aiming to evoke feelings of making memories with friends. While she did not confirm a new album, she mentioned that she has been actively creating music since concluding her tour with Kali Uchis and Mariah the Scientist.

During her interview, Laila! discussed her creative process for "Miss Mango," drawing inspiration from neighborhood fruit stands and personifying the mango as a metaphor for someone beautiful but unaware of their worth. The music video visually represents this narrative, culminating in a plan to get revenge on an unkind partner.

Reflecting on her recent tour with Kali Uchis, Laila! shared that it was a significant learning experience, particularly observing stage production and audience engagement. She noted the positive reception to her new music, especially "Miss Mango," during the tour and expressed gratitude for the impactful interactions with fans.
