Laika, a studio renowned for its Oscar-nominated stop-motion films, is set to receive the Gotham Anniversary Tribute. This special recognition marks two decades of the company's innovative filmmaking and storytelling.
The celebration coincides with the release of Laika's latest production, "Wildwood," which is scheduled to debut in theaters on October 23. The film will have its world premiere at the London Film Festival on October 11 and will serve as the opening-night feature for AFI Fest ten days later.
This tribute acknowledges Laika's consistent push of animation boundaries. The studio has recently partnered with the Gotham Film & Media Institute to establish an animation accelerator program aimed at supporting emerging creators working on animated short films. This initiative underscores Laika's commitment to fostering new talent.
"Wildwood," directed by Travis Knight, is based on Colin Meloy's novel and follows a teenager's rescue mission into an enchanted forest. The film boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, and Awkwafina.
