Set on a desolate Chilean island, "La Perra" follows Silvia, a woman harvesting seaweed. Her quiet existence is transformed by the joy of adopting a puppy named Yuri. This newfound tenderness ignites a dormant maternal desire, but Yuri's subsequent disappearance plunges Silvia back into a haunting childhood trauma.
Manuela Oyarzún leads the cast, which also features David Gaete, Selton Mello, Paula Luchsinger, and Paula Dinamarca. Paris-based Lucky Number has joined the project and will initiate international sales at the Cannes festival.
Sotomayor is recognized for her previous festival successes, including awards at Rotterdam, Berlin, and Locarno, where she made history as the first female director to win the best director award in 2018. Her latest film is described as "pure cinema" with striking visuals and captivating depth.
