The Los Angeles Opera is set to unveil its 2026-2027 season, marking the debut season under incoming Music Director Domingo Hindoyan. He succeeds James Conlon, who will become conductor laureate. Hindoyan, also chief conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, will conduct two of the five mainstage productions. His selections include Bizet's "Carmen" and Verdi's "Nabucco," with an aim to reanimate the operatic canon and reflect L.A.'s diverse spirit. Hindoyan described "Carmen" as an ideal opener, blending fun with danger, while "Nabucco" was chosen as an important Verdi work challenging for the chorus and orchestra. Other productions include Leonard Bernstein's "Candide," Puccini's "Turandot," and Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." Hindoyan's vision is inspired by advice from childhood friend Gustavo Dudamel to "push boundaries" in Los Angeles. He and his wife, opera singer Sonya Yoncheva, maintain a primary residence in Switzerland. Additional programming includes the Off Grand initiative with unconventional shows and community outreach via L.A. Opera Connects. Season tickets for the five mainstage shows start at $164, with individual sales beginning in June.
