24 Jul
Summary
- Film and TV production shoot days dropped 13% in LA's second quarter.
- Overall television production saw a 27.7% decrease from the previous year.
- Mayor Bass highlighted the positive impact of incentives on local productions.

Film and television production in Los Angeles saw a significant 13% decline in shoot days during the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year. This downturn occurred even as Hollywood's box office revenue is on track for its first $10 billion year since 2019.
Despite an overall 27.7% drop in television production, specific segments like TV dramas experienced only a 6.4% decrease year-over-year. Furthermore, TV dramas saw a substantial 55% increase in shoot days from the first quarter of 2026. Several prominent shows, including "Baywatch" and "Prison Break" reboots, filmed in the area.
However, other production types faced steeper declines. Reality television shoot days fell by 39.9% year-over-year, while TV comedies dropped by 43%. Feature film production was down 19.9%, and commercial production saw a 21.5% decrease from the previous year.
Mayor Karen Bass acknowledged the challenges but pointed to the success of state incentives. She stated that these incentives are increasing local, incentivized productions, leading to job creation and economic benefits for Los Angeles residents. Bass is advocating for expanded tax credits and federal incentives to further support the industry.
