Born Avtar Kohli in Peshawar, he had a career of over thirty years in the Indian film industry. He began by assisting Raj Kapoor and later directed films like "Kohraam" and "Suhaag," alongside films starring Ajay Devgn such as "Haqeeqat."
Kohli, who was married to actress Aruna Irani, also directed "Anari No. 1." His contributions significantly shaped Bollywood's commercial cinema in the 1990s.
