Court Upholds $500K Penalty for K-Pop Star's Contract Breach
27 Sep, 2025
Summary
- Court rules Park Yoo-chun must pay $500K for violating contract
- Park claimed deal with agency had ended, but judges rejected claim
- Agency ordered to pay $470K for unpaid settlement obligations

As of September 27th, 2025, a South Korean court has ruled that singer and actor Park Yoo-chun must pay a hefty penalty for violating his exclusive contract with his former management agency, Have Fun Together. The Seoul High Court upheld a previous decision, requiring Park and his current agency, Re:cielo, to jointly pay 500 million won (approximately $500,000) in damages.
The legal battle traces back to January 2020, when Have Fun Together granted Re:cielo the exclusive rights to oversee Park's activities through 2024. However, disputes surfaced in May 2021 when Park sought to end the deal. After negotiations collapsed, Park and Re:cielo argued the contract could be voided if settlement payments were unmet. When Have Fun Together did not respond, Park unilaterally declared the agreement terminated and partnered with another company to restart his career.
In August 2021, Have Fun Together secured a court injunction barring Park from broadcasting appearances and entertainment work. Despite the order, Park reportedly pushed ahead with overseas concerts and promotional deals, deepening the legal battle. The agency then filed a $500,000 claim for damages, citing infringement of management rights.
While Park partially succeeded in exposing Have Fun Together's failure to meet financial terms, the court ultimately ruled in favor of the agency, reinforcing the importance of contractual enforcement in the entertainment industry. This latest setback comes as Park's career continues to face challenges following previous controversies.
