Two Korean features, "Man in Hanbok" and "I'm Popo," have been distributed in Korea following their market premieres at Hong Kong FilMart. "Man in Hanbok," a historical fantasy directed by Lee Sang-hoon, reimagines the disappearance of Joseon-era scientist Jang Yeong-sil. With assistance from King Sejong and Zheng He, Jang secretly journeys to Renaissance Florence.
In Italy, Jang Yeong-sil collaborates with a young Leonardo da Vinci to construct a flying machine, "bicha." The film utilized generative AI to recreate both the Joseon court and Renaissance Italy. Following a screening at the Busan Intl. Film Festival in 2025, it is slated for a May release in Korea.
"I'm Popo," a 64-minute sci-fi thriller directed by Kim Il-dong, follows a robot designed for crime prevention that begins eliminating potential criminals pre-emptively. This raises ethical questions about algorithmic certainty versus human moral judgment. The film, set for a May release, has garnered international attention and won the Grand Prize at the Korea AI Content Awards.
