Kolkata's Iconic Durga Puja Carnival Celebrates City's Vibrant Culture

On October 5th, 2025, Kolkata's iconic Durga Puja carnival on Red Road is poised to be the biggest since it started in 2016. This year, a record 113 award-winning Pujas will participate in the carnival, a significant increase from the 89 Pujas that took part last year.

The carnival, which has become a hallmark of Kolkata's vibrant Durga Puja celebrations, is set to reflect the city's contemporary social and cultural landscape. Resonating with the themes of this year's Durga Puja, the installations and tableaux at the carnival will highlight issues such as language, migrant workers, and communal harmony.

"The installations at the carnival are usually a reflection of the puja organiser's theme for the particular year. This year's carnival will also be the same, which will include the Durga idol and tableau reflecting the theme of this year's pujo," said Suvendu Samanta, the organizer of the Chetla Agrani Puja.

The one-kilometer stretch between Fort William and Akashvani Bhavan will come alive on carnival day, showcasing the artistic brilliance and societal reflections of Kolkata's Durga Puja celebrations. Even though the Puja festivities officially end on Dashami, the carnival provides a final opportunity for the public to witness the stunning Durga idols and artwork before they are immersed at Babughat.
