Kolkata Film Festival Showcases Restored Cinematic Gems from the Past

The 31st Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), which is currently underway, has curated an impressive lineup of restored and cult classic films to be screened as part of the centenary and special tribute section. This includes the 1925 silent film 'Light of Asia' and masterpieces like Satyajit Ray's 'Joy Baba Felunath'.
The festival will also feature the 4K restored versions of Ray's 'Aranyer Din Ratri' and Bimal Roy's 'Do Bigha Zameen', the latter of which won the Prix International at the Cannes Film Festival in 1954. Sharmila Tagore and Simi Garewal, who attended the screening of the Ray classic at the Cannes Film Festival this year, are expected to grace the KIFF screening as well.
In addition, KIFF is commemorating the centenary of two iconic silent films: Charlie Chaplin's 'The Gold Rush' and Franz Osten and Himansu Rai's 'Prem Sanyas' (The Light of Asia). The festival will also feature screenings of restored classics to honor the centenary of notable figures such as Raj Khosla, Santosh Dutta, Samuel Peckinpah, Richard Burton, and Salil Chowdhury.
